Jeff McCallum is a San Diego-based shaper renowned for his handcrafted creations that subtly blend retro aesthetics with modern performance. Originally from Denver, far from the mythical waves of the Pacific coast, Jeff moved to San Diego at the age of 18 to begin his career with renowned shaper Chris Christenson. Starting with modest tasks in the workshop, he gradually learned every facet of the trade, from shaping to polishing, developing a holistic approach to shaping.
Strongly influenced by legendary figures such as Skip Frye, Bob Simmons and George Greenough, Jeff draws on their expertise while constantly reinventing the approach to surfing with shapes that are both simple and innovative. His vision of shaping is as much about art as it is about performance, enabling him to collaborate with iconic surfers such as Joel Tudor on original designs.
The relationship between Jeff McCallum and Renaud Cardinal began during Renaud's youthful travels in California. Fascinated by American surfing culture and Jeff's unique know-how, Renaud soon invited him to come to France as a guest shaper in his workshop. This collaboration enabled the Shapers Club to offer European surfers three flagship models: the PDX, the Mini-Simmons and the T-Egg, carefully crafted in a unique combination of Californian spirit and French craftsmanship.
Today, McCallum boards appeal to enthusiasts around the world, including Japan, Australia and Europe. Jeff continues to push the creative boundaries of shaping while preserving the precious heritage of traditional craftsmanship. His atypical background, authenticity and commitment to quality inspire the surf community and new generations of shapers.
